EA has announced that its popular life-sim game, The Sims 4, will be going free-to-play on October 18, 2022. The Sims 4 is available on PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One.

In a statement, the company said that “With The Sims 4 going free to play, our team is more dedicated than ever to developing new and meaningful The Sims 4 experiences for our players and we will continue to develop and release packs, kits and Sims Delivery Express drops into the foreseeable future.”

On October 18, the base game only will be available to download for free. Other kits and packs will need to be purchased separately as they were before. However, from September 14 to October 17, all Sims 4 owners currently will receive the new Desert Luxe Kit for free.

“With the Desert Luxe Kit, Sims can relax in their modern oasis with luxurious indoor and outdoor furniture, inspired by the natural landscape of the Southwestern desert and materials like stone and wood.”

Also scheduled on October 18, the developers at Maxis will share more details on the future plans for the game.

The Sims 4 originally released on PC back in September 2014 before releasing on Mac in 2015 and then in 2017, it released on console platforms. As of February 2019, the game has generated $1 billion in revenue and is played by more than 33 million people, according to EA.

The Sims 4 is arguably among the most popular games out there due to its wide reach across platforms and its fun gameplay that appeals to many audiences.
