Canva, the popular graphic design service, is working to expand its portfolio and become a stronger contender in productivity now. The company, which is based in Australia, announced during the Canva Create event that it will unveil a new suite of products: Canva Docs, Canva Websites, Canva Whiteboards, and Data Visualization.
Canva is also expanding many of its current features, including print offerings and background removing technology so that it can work on videos. Canva Presentations will get a remote control feature, allowing presenters to use something like a phone as a virtual clicker.
Canva co-founder and COO said in an interview with TechCrunch that the company had been working “for the last two years essentially on the new era of Canva. Canva has always been very much like an individual product with deep penetration into the workplace.”
Canva states that 85% of Fortune 500 companies use Canva’s design tools, including Salesforce and FedEx. About 4.4 million customers pay for Canva for Teams, which launched last year. The worksuite will have a freemium model, meaning that there will be a paid and free tier. Canva’s worksuite will allow real-time collaboration as well.
Obrecht says that Canva’s goal is not to compete with Microsoft Office or Google suite. “Our products are inherently visual, so we take a very visual lens on, what does a visual document look like? How do you turn that boring document that’s all text based into something engaging?”
Microsoft is currently working on developing a Canva-style visual tool called Microsoft Designer.
